Hybrids

Hybrid vehicles combine the power of a petrol engine with the torque and clean energy of an electric motor to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Furthermore, Toyota hybrids can operate solely on the electric motor at mid- to low-range speeds, saving fuel and producing no harmful exhaust pollution – much healthier for pedestrians and other road users caught in congested city traffic.

Compared to conventional internal combustion engines which have been around for over a hundred years, hybrid vehicles have only been on the market for a decade.

This revolutionary technology features in a growing number of Toyota and Lexus models, as well as buses and trucks, and global sales of our hybrids passed the one million mark in 2007.

Worldwide this is estimated to have saved over 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 to date, compared with petrol-powered equivalent vehicles. In the US alone, hybrids of all manufacturers are estimated to have saved 5.1 million barrels of oil since 1991.

In NZ, we have widest range of hybrids available, as shown here. We have four hybrids available as new cars and a range of quality used hybrids, marketed under our Signature Class brand.



We are already developing the next generation of hybrid vehicles which will include diesel and plug-in hybrids.
